Services overview
Functional exercise
Functional exercises train your muscles to work together and prepare them for daily tasks by simulating common activities you do at home, work, or in sports. As physical therapists, we can help you recover from injury, relieve pain, restore function, prevent further injury and deal with chronic conditions. Our ultimate goal is to improve your health and quality of life so you can thrive.
Integrated Manual Therapy (IMT)
Thrive Integrative Physical Therapy and Sports Rehab incorporates Integrated Manual Therapy (IMT), a complementary, holistic approach which serves as another tool for treatment in orthopedic physical therapy. The treatment method focuses on structure and function of the patient’s injured area but also takes into consideration the multiple system of the body which need to work together efficiently to allow the body to heal.
IMT consists of gentle, non-invasive hands-on techniques used to correct dysfunctional movement patterns. Trauma or injury can cause tissue damage and the body will protect that area through reflexive pain mechanisms that reduce ranges of motion and function. By addressing the protective mechanisms, the source of the problem can be addressed. This philosophy allows us to effectively treat complicated orthopedic patients that may not have gotten better with other therapy techniques, such as modalities. IMT techniques address structural dysfunction using specific directional forces or torques on tissue, similar to strain-counterstrain (SCS), which creates an environment for healing. The therapist manipulates the tissue to create a fulcrum in which the structure can elongate, decompress, and normalize. By addressing the protective mechanisms and correcting the structural problems, patients are better able to tolerate other treatments, such as exercise and joint mobilizations. Patients are then able to strengthen and move in a pain free functional pattern, one they may not have been previously able to do.
IMT techniques can be used to address a wide range of patient problems including post-surgical, chronic and acute pain, orthopedic and neurological conditions. The experienced therapists at Thrive Integrative Physical Therapy and Sports Rehab utilize IMT techniques to provide a comprehensive treatment plan through problem solving and one-on-one care. Our approach has been successful and we look forward to helping our patients reach their goals for rehabilitation.
